Meet Sean Mcgirr, The New Creative Director At Alexander McQueen

Gianfilippo Testa, the CEO of Alexander McQueen, has named Seán McGirr as the brand’s creative director, citing McGirr’s background, character, and drive to expand on the brand’s distinctive history.

Alexander McQueen was a British fashion designer and couturier who founded his own label in 1992 and served as chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001.

He won four British Designer of the Year awards and the CFDA’s International Designer of the Year award in 2003. McQueen died by suicide in 2010 at the age of 40.

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering, expressed trust in McGirr’s ability to carry on the brand’s journey with fresh creative vigour and excitement for starting a new chapter in the brand’s history.

The renowned fashion label Alexander McQueen has formally named Dublin-born Irish designer Seán McGirr as its new creative director.

In light of the devastating loss of the legendary Lee Alexander McQueen in 2010, Sarah Burton, who had been serving as the company’s creative director since 2010, has graciously ended her employment.

Following Sarah Burton’s farewell runway show and presentation in the alluring city of Paris this week, Kering, the parent company of Alexander McQueen, made the news of this pivotal event in the history of the brand.
